Yesterday I tried another new recipe, this time one I threw together myself. It was kind of a “what’s in the fridge” recipe. I had some frozen okra and lima beans that had been taking up space in the freezer for several months, and I also had 2 peeled sweet potatoes that needed to be used. I sliced the sweet potatoes thinly and sauteéd them in olive oil, then added some green pepper and chopped onions we had in the […] (Read more)

Tonight I revisited a recipe I had not tried in about 10 years, so it is basically new again – ravioli. They are a lot of work, but Clare requested it, specifically with goat cheese. I ended up buying some pre-shredded italian mix with mozarella, asiago, romano, parmesan, and provolone, and I also bought some goat cheese. I mixed these up with frozen (thawed) chopped spinach, a little salt & pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. I used a pasta […] (Read more)

Tonight I tried another new recipe, this one from the Moosewood Classics cookbook, which our good friend Melanie gave us. It has many great recipes. This one did not disappoint. It was a little different than what I remembered as stroganoff as a kid, which was mostly just noodles in a creamy sauce with hamburger and mushrooms. This one has lots of vegetables, some red wine, some canned tomatoes, and some tofu sour cream. Overall it turned out quite well, […] (Read more)

Tonight I wasn’t really sure what to make for dinner. I wasn’t really in the mood for any standards, nor did I find any recipes that sounded good to me. I kind of wanted burritos, but we didn’t have any avocados, and they are much better with avocados. I was also a bit in the mood for Italian, and had a hankering for barbecue sauce. So I decided that pasta with a sweet and spicy sauce would be good. I […] (Read more)

Yesterday I tried another new dish, this one inspired by a recipe I found on the internet. It was for pork, but I subsituted mock pork (seitan). I had half a head of napa cabbage that needed to be used, and I found this recipe looking around for napa cabbage recipes. I thought that apricots and cabbage sounded like an interesting pairing, and that turned out to be the case. I made a few other substitutions. The original recipe called […] (Read more)
